What is basecal?

Basecal is a powdered protein free feed available in 2 convenient pre-measured sachet sizes. It is designed to offer an accurate and simple way of providing protein free nutrition.

It is available in 2 options:

Basecal100 contains 100 calories

Basecal200 contains 200 calories

Your dietitian will recommend which of the sizes you or your child should take based on individual requirements. The pre-measured sachets are easy to use, with no weighing or measuring required.

Who is basecal for?

Basecal can be used by those with MSUD from 3 years, right the way through childhood and into adulthood.

Why do I need to use basecal?

In times of illness, extra energy is required to ensure amino acid levels are kept under control. Basecal provides that energy in a pre-measured dose.

It is important to supplement basecal with a source of protein. Your dietitian will decide what product and how much is appropriate for you.

How much basecal do I need?

The amount of basecal needed will depend on a variety of factors including age and weight. Your dietitian will tell you exactly how much basecal should be used and how often.

How do I use basecal?

Basecal is easy to prepare.

For basecal100:

  1. Empty the contents of the sachet into the beaker.
  2. Add cold water to a final volume of 100ml.
  3. Replace lid, shake well for 10 seconds and consume immediately

For basecal200:

  1. Empty the contents of the sachet into the beaker.
  2. Add cold water to a final volume of 200ml.
  3. Replace lid, shake well for 10 seconds and consume immediately

What flavour is basecal?

Basecal is unflavoured.
